Third district, where's my car?

Today seems like an appropriate day to write my first official DC blog post. I had quite a "welcome to the third district" moment this morning when I went to retreive something from my car and it was gone. Stolen, you think? Oh no, just towed to a different street because of the neighborhood block party.

Now, I fully support the idea of a neighborhood block party. If I hadn't had plans to get out of the city and go hiking I would likely have attended the block party. My problem is not with my car being towed, but the fact that a simple, "hey, could you move your car?" might have been a more neighborly way to handle the situation. Especially since I walked to my car Saturday morning, greeted several neighbors, and no one said anything. Ah well, looking on the bright side, when they tow your car for a block party they don't impound it, they just put it on another street. They do charge a $30 fine that I intend to dispute.

And so begin my adventures in a new part of the city...stay tuned for more.

Meme...does that rhyme with seem?

Well I know the answer now thanks to Tanya and her brilliant wiki-research. Thanks Tdawg, I'm learning so many interesting things about my St. Louis friends! I don't know if I know 7 people who blog who haven't been "memed" but we'll see how it goes.

Here are the rules:
1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Seven Facts:

1. I am a coffee addict. I tried to stop drinking coffee in the morning and replaced it with tea for about 3 days. I did alright, but then I decided that I enjoy coffee way too much and I don't care if I'm addicted. There are worse addictions you can have, right?

2. I have a tattoo but I'm afraid of needles. I have been known to pass out when I'm having blood drawn, but seemed to do alright with the tattoo. I did have two people holding my hand the whole time.

3. Speaking of fears, I have an irrational fear of snakes! My neighbor called to borrow an ax one night because there was a snake under his porch. At this time we lived in a basement condo. So I locked the doors and the windows so the snake wouldn't be able to get into the house. I'm pretty sure that was good idea, snakes are sneaky little buggers. Oh, my neighbor did kill the snake.

4. I have two in-laws as of this year, it's very exciting. My sister and brother both got married. My sister's husband's name is Jon, giving our family a total 4 men named Jon at family gatherings, 5 when my counsin's boyfriend is in town.

5. I built something this year! Kinda...I installed this hanging rod thing in my wardrobe and so far my clothes are still hanging and I have all ten fingers and toes. This is impressive from the girl who had to borrow the drill and look up how to attach the drill bits on howstuffworks.com

6. I never name my cars, but I did name my guitar. Her name is Daisy, please don't be fooled by the Sunflower guitar strap she wears, that was a gift from someone who didn't know her name. It's a little confusing at times, for both of us. The car I drive now is named Isabelle, I call her Bella or sometimes I call her Isa. This may be confusing since I already said I don't name my cars, but I inherited Isa from my brother and he names everything. I don't want to un-name her because that would just be mean.

7. You know how in college Thursday night was always part of the weekend? Well senior year I didn't have classes on Fridays so it was a very legitimate part of my weekend. Well I never really recovered from that "the weekend starts on Thursday night" mindset and have been pretty worthless in class or at work on Fridays ever since. By the way, I'm writing this on a Friday.

I meme Heather (in hopes that she may blog again), Heidi V. (my faithful commented), Brook (my little bro), Anne (cause she blogs a bit on facebook), Mike (to help represent the southwest), Julie (my fellow maryland blogger), Lindsey (to see if she'll do it)

Checking out the new format

Hello, is anyone out there? Just checking out the new format for stlouisblogs. I realize I'm a bit behind the times, June was a bit crazy. Highlights include:

- Moving lots of boxes into the District of Columbia where I will now be taxed but not represented. Thanks to everyone who helped!
- Eating tacos, drinking tequila and hanging out with motorcycle gangs in Mexico.
- Watching my little sister get married after the trolley caught on fire on the way to the church. Okay, that was actually in May, but it was really late May.

The Adventures of Stanley, Hudson and Wendell

Last Friday night we had some wonderful spring weather here in D.C. I took the opportunity to go down to the monuments and take some pictures with Flat Stanley. Flat Stanley came to visit from St. Louis. He had a great time in D.C. Here is a picture of Flat Stanley and the Washington Monument.

Oh, and he had his hearing tested as well.

I took a copy of Hudson Taylor's biography to read on the metro. If that doesn't challenge me to be more dependent on the Lord, I don't know what will. If you haven't read it, you should. It's super short and he has an amazing life story.

After taking pictures I went over to a coffee shop in D.C. to here this guy. He was fantastic and he played with this girl, who is equally fantastic. When they played together they were fantastico! Yes, that is what you get when you ad fantastic + fantastic. Alright, I think it's getting to late for me to write much more that makes sense.

Happy St. Patrick's Day?

I'm not Irish, but I definitely enjoy a good Irish Car Bomb (credit to Neil Das for the diagram and explanation) and I'm a big fan of St. Patrick because he got rid of all the snakes in Ireland. Well, who knows if that's true, but I would like to believe it.

I found this interesting article from the BBC about the church and St. Patrick's day. I must confess I was just trying to find out more about how he got rid of the snakes. But the article was interesting. Happy St. Patrick's Day, whenever you decide to celebrate!
